yeah sure no problemo! canon just means that it’s something that actually happened. it’s something that really went on in the show or is a true fact about the character as written/drawn by the writer/artist.

for example, haru has black hair and blue eyes. he is mostly quiet and rarely smiles. he has been friends with makoto since childhood. all of this is canon.

haru is dating makoto. he is secretly a mermaid. he spends all of his time reading magazines about water. this is not canon (even if we want it to be)

you might also see the word “headcanon” a lot. basically it means that its something someone thinks could be canon, but hasnt actually been written or addressed in the show. an example is that i headcanon rei as someone who really looks up to his older brother. this isnt something thats been addressed (or disproved for that matter) in the show, but is something that could happen or be true.

you’ll probably see a lot of people call things canon even when theyre not simply because it is very strongly implied canon (for example a lot of people say their ships are canon or that characters are a specific sexuality simply because its never been denied or addressed) and a lot of the time they’re not being very serious (other times they are but be careful around those people because they usually take things really seriously)
